Dover, NH - Amer Elias Fakhoury, age 57 died on August 17, 2020 at Brigham & Women’s Hospital from stage 4 cancer, surrounded by his lifetime loving wife and his four children. Amer grew up in Jdaydet Marjeyoun, South of Lebanon, child of late Elias Antoun Fakhoury and Josephine Abou Kassem in catholic, caring and loving family rooted in their Lebanese tradition and the love to their homeland. Due to political pressure and life-threatening consecutive events and harassment, Amer and his family had to flee for safety and settled in Dover NH in 2002. There he made a home for him and his family. Amer was held a hostage under the terrorist militia of Hezbollah after going to visit family in Lebanon; he was abused for several months through inhuman ways and that caused his health to deteriorate radically. He was a martyr for his belief in freedom and democracy. The family will be always in debt to Senator Shaheen for her relentless efforts to bring Amer home from the breath of the tyranny of Hezbollah. Amer enjoyed music, poetry and was a very well read and knowledgeable man. He spoke fluent Arabic; English and he was passionate on following the national and international politic subjects. He loved singing and his favorite days were Sundays because he got to spend it with his wife, his four girls, their spouses and their grandchildren. Amer is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Micheline Elias; his four daughters, Guila Fakhoury and her husband George Attalah of Salem, NH., Amanda Fakhoury and her husband Abdo Iskandar of Salem NH, Macy and Zoya Fakhoury of Dover NH; 3 grandchildren. In addition, Amer leaves behind him his brother Harb Fakhoury and Najah Fakhoury all of Lebanon. Calling hours will be on Thursday, August 20, 2020 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Wiggin-Purdy Funeral Homes, 655 Central Avenue, Dover, NH. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at Saint George Maronite Church, Dover, NH on August 21, 2020 at 11:00 AM. (Seating is limited to 40 people in church, first come first serve). I will miss this warm, affable man whom I always admired for his being such a proud father of four wonderful girls, a great husband to Michele and a very industrious guy who worked hard to help provide for his family. As I would enter Quick to Go, he would always greet me in his inviting, booming voice, “Hello cousin” to which I would respond in kind. I liked him so much I could even forgive his conservative politics and we could laugh about our differences. It has been a long, painful period for all who have loved him. I know, though, that in time and for a lifetime, you will all be nourished by so many wonderful memories of time shared with this fine man

Dear Micheline and Fakhoury Family, I am so sorry to hear of the loss of Amer. He was such a kind and interesting man with whom I always enjoyed speaking on our happy trips into your restaurant. He was also such a great help with my vehicle. Your Dover friends and community were shocked to learn of the unjust trauma that Amer was forced to endure and managed to survive when you went back to Lebanon. We felt horrible for the suffering you all went through. I am so glad he had your love and support through it all, and the love and prayers of friends. I will always remember Amer fondly. May his soul rest in peace.

To the Fakhoury Family: I am sorry for the loss of your husband, father, and brother. I have prayed for him since he was held captive, and thought of him whenever I drove by the business, even just a week ago. I am so glad he settled in Dover, where he and your family were able to become a part of a welcoming and caring community. After being held captive when attempting to visit loved ones, I am so glad that he was released and was with you the last several months of his life. They say that life has ups and downs, and Amer's downs were certainly extreme, Yet he knew your love, the love of friends, and the love of God. He is at peace now; whole, not broken, and no longer in pain. This a time of mourning, and of knowing he is with God. I pray that for all of you, it will also be a time of happy memories and messages of "I'll see you again..." God Bless You A Dover Neighbor
