Obituary for Austena S Dumas (Sarty)

Austena S. Dumas
Dover, NH – Austena S. Dumas passed away peacefully Sunday December 19, 2021 at Wentworth Douglass Hospital after battling against pneumonia and Covid complications.

She was born in the small town of Antigonish, Nova Scotia on August 28, 1950. She moved to the USA at the age of eight where her mother worked for travelling logging camps.

She eventually moved to Biddeford Maine, where she met the love of her life, Alfred. They finished school and got married in 1968.

They eventually moved to the little red farm house in Dover, NH, where they raised four children: Alfred P. Dumas of Gonic, Anthony Dumas, and Amy and Andre Dumas of Dover.

Austena spent several years in the medical field as a Nurse’s Aide at Riverside Rest Home in Dover, NH. She attended McIntosh College and graduated in the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society as a Medical Assistant, working many years at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital.

She eventually retired back into a homemaker role, sewing troop socks for Pease Greeters, Baby blankets and clothing for Project Linus and the Stork Project, food and clothing to My Friend’s Place of Dover, and sewing and donating clothes for local and nationwide disaster-relief programs.

She had an active religious life, spending several years as a choir member, and doing craft fairs at St. Mary’s Church in Dover, NH. She and her family then moved to the St. George Maronite Catholic church, cooking for public suppers, homeless meals, and anytime someone needed some comfort.

She passed down the importance of faith, love, service and a good sense of humor down to her children.
She leaves her husband of 52 years, Alfred Dumas, her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, siblings and all the souls touched by her loving heart and hands. She was the best wife, mother and friend you could ever pray to have. She will be dearly missed.

Visiting hours will be from 12-3pm on Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at the Wiggin-Purdy-McCooey-Dion Funeral Home at 655 Central Ave, Dover, NH 03820. Services will be held in the spring, date to be determined.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to St. George Maronite Catholic Church, P.O. Box 2210, Dover NH 03820.
