Obituary for Eleanore L. Janetos (Stolpe)

Eleanore Lucille Janetos (Stolpe), 93, of Rollinsford, NH passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Thanksgiving Day, November 25, 2021. Ele was born in Topeka, KS, the second child of Della Irene Stolpe (Cowan) and William Henry Stolpe. Eleanore was a graduate of Topeka High School, Class of 1946. While a student at Topeka High, Ele was involved in the school newspaper and glee club. Once graduated, Ele worked at American Home Life Insurance Company in downtown Topeka, until she met the love of her life. Eleanore met Lewis Evangelos Janetos, who was attending Officer Candidate School at Fort Riley, KS, after a local USO Dance. Lew and Ele resided in San Luis Obispo, CA, West End, NJ and Little Nahant, MA before returning to Rollinsford. Ele passed away on what would have been their 70th wedding anniversary.
Eleanore served the local community and the state of NH as an active volunteer. She was a 53 year member of the First Parish United Church of Christ-Congregational in Somersworth, NH, and served as Church Historian, Deacon, Sunday School Teacher and Mentor. She was also dedicated to the Women’s Club of Somersworth for over 65 years. Ele served as General Federation of Women’s Clubs-State of NH President, 1982-1984, and GFWC Creative Arts Chairman, 1984-1986. She was a founding member of the Summersworth Historical Society and served as its first President. She served as a 4-H Project Leader and Superintendent of the Rochester Fair Sheep Show for many years.
In 2012 Eleanore and Lewis were the first recipients of the Association of Rollinsford Culture and History (ARCH) Heritage Award and they received the 2012 Certificate of Appreciation from the New Hampshire Farm Museum.
Most important to Ele was her family. She was predeceased by her husband Lewis E. Janetos; son William L. Janetos; sister Lois Elliott (Stolpe) and husband, James Elliott; brother Robert Stolpe and wife Libby. She is survived by her son Rollins L. Janetos and wife Jean of Rollinsford, NH, daughter Dr. Julie and husband Dr. Richard Hurley of Rollinsford, NH; and daughter Donna and husband Stephen Ferranti of Bedford, NH. Ele was a matriarch of a large extended family, including 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Wiggin-Purdy-McCooey-Dion Funeral Home, 655 Central Ave, Dover, NH has been entrusted with her care. There are no visitation hours. A Celebration of Life service will take place at First Parish UCC Congregational Church, 176 West High St, Somersworth, NH at 11 am on Friday, December 3, 2021. A private burial will take place at New Town Cemetery, Rollinsford, NH prior to the service.
