Obituary for Irene A Adams (Gelinas)

IRENE AURORE ADAMS (Gelinas) 4/22/1932-3/27/2022

Irene was born to a French Catholic family in Manchester, NH. She was the daughter of the late Neree Gelinas and Aurore Gelinas. She was the eldest of 3 children, with a sister (Terry) and a brother (Bob) who passed before her. She raised two children (son, Richard & daughter, Joanne). A small family but we had a lot of great times together at our grandparents camp with our cousins when we were young.
Irene had a wonderful career at the Telephone company, where she worked hard for many years to support her family. While working for Bell, Irene met her soulmate Lyle, who we laid to rest 2 1/2 yrs. ago. They were married for 44 yrs. and retired from the phone company after long careers, which included a 3 year trip to help setup the communication systems in Tehran, Iran. The couple had a great life, living in many places and loved to travel, go boating, fishing and being with family and friends.
Irene was a wonderful, generous person, with everything. She always took care of her family, helping out whenever it was needed. Irene and Lyle were always involved in helping with community activities when they lived in Florida & North Carolina. Bingo was a weekly get together where they would do the shopping and cooking for the concessions. They were also greatly involved in Dragon boat racing with all their friends at Hawthorne. Lots of time was spent on their pontoon boat with friends in Florida. She had many friends and missed them when they left.
In 2014 Irene & Lyle moved back to NC to Abernathy for the next phase of their life. She wanted to help take care of her sister, which she did until she passed. She loved living there, where everyone loved her. Irene continued to be active in community activities and staying connected with friends/family. While talking to the caretakers at Abernathy, they described her as “Sweet & Salty” which described her well. Very sweet, helpful & caring woman but if you got her frustrated or angry…you could get the wrath of Irene ❤️ LOL. Irene continued to live out her life in NC at Abernathy Laurels Continuous care until she passed ( just 2 1/2 yrs after her dear husband Lyle)
We love you & miss you. Even though you’ve passed, you’ll never be forgotten, and you will always hold a place in our hearts. Raising us took a lot of patience, thanks for being our Mom. Your life was a blessing and your memory will always be a treasure. Rest In Peace Mom 😓❤️
