Obituary for James Robert Maxwell

James Robert Maxwell (“Jim”) of Milton, NH lost his fight against COVID-19 on Friday, December 10, 2021 at Frisbee Memorial Hospital.
Jim was born in Exeter, NH on September 19, 1959 to parents Allan Bruce Maxwell, Jr. and Helen Adams Maxwell. After a childhood learning his wonderful sense of humor by joining his older brothers in neighborhood pranks, he graduated from Exeter High School in 1977. He attended a car mechanic school and traveled around the U.S. installing materials handling systems until the early 90s. Always a quick study with technology and mechanics, he picked up working with computers back when the industry was new and made a career solving puzzles and building new programs. A smart man and constant tinkerer, Jim leaves behind many unfinished projects.
Jim’s family and friends meant more to him than anything, and he could often be found sharing a meal or a drink with his loved ones. He was a good-natured guy with a kind word and a joke for anyone who would listen. He brightened the room for everyone who knew him.
Jim from a young age loved all animals and was never far from a dog on his lap or a cat at his shoulder. He is predeceased by many beloved pets who will be happy to snuggle him across the rainbow bridge.
He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Joyce Pomfret Maxwell, his daughter Samantha Maxwell Gordon, her husband Grant Gordon, grandson Armel Roland Maxwell Gordon, and his stepchildren Jonathan and Heather Chamness.
He is also survived by 3 brothers and 1 sister, Gregory Maxwell, John Maxwell, Allan Maxwell, Mary Maxwell Jensen and her husband Erik, as well as many nieces and nephews.
He will be remembered as a compassionate and generous friend and father, and will be deeply missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held outdoors in the spring, and all are welcome. Join us for an afternoon guiltlessly gorging on food and bourbon while sharing our favorite stories of Jim. If you are a friend and would like to know when the event is scheduled, please “subscribe to updates” using the button below.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the New Hampshire SPCA in Stratham at https://nhspca.org/, where Jim visited frequently.
