Obituary for Joan Frances Fowler (Clay)

Joan Frances Fowler of Rochester NH died March 17, 2021 at the age of 90 surrounded by family and friends. Joan was born in Beverly, MA on August 4, 1930, the daughter of the late Joseph & Lora (Walker)Clay. She moved to her daughter Sally's home in Rochester from Dover NH in 2005 after the death her husband Kenneth Fowler. Joan had previously resided in Somersworth NH, Upper Stewiacke Nova Scotia and Derry NH.
She was a Gold Star mother and past president of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Derry NH. She was a member of the Upper Stewiacke United Church and participated in fund raising & charities.
Her passions were her family, her friends at Vicki's painting classes, traveling to the beach, lobster dinners, painting in acrylics & water color, crocheting & knitting, playing Words with Friends & Pogo on her iPad & computer. Recently, she had been crocheting items for donation to Project Linus. All her household activities were done with the assistance of her cat Mindy. Joan's favorite artworks were done by her granddaughters. Kimberly's painting of her horse Pompita and Laina's school drawings for the Texas State Fair are prominently displayed.
She is survived by her daughter Sally (& J.) Verrill, son Richard (& Pam) Durling and son Thomas Durling. Grandchildren Jenny, Kathleen, Timothy, Robert, Annette, Kimberly, and Steven. Great grandchildren Kaiden, Jason, Laina and Caleb.
She was predeceased by her sister Norma Gardner, sons Joseph, Steven and Michael Durling.
She wished to thank the Doctors & Nurses at both Frisbie Hospital & Wentworth Douglass Hospitals whose care gave her many extra years to enjoy life. She thanks the Frisbee EMTs for their expertise in evaluating & safely transporting her to the hospital over the years. Thanks also to the caregivers at Birch Healthcare Center of Rochester for their kindness & expert care during her short stay there.
There will be no service at this time but a Celebration of Life will be held in the summer at a date to be determined.
