Obituary for LaVohn Kay "Vohnny" Weyrick (LePage)
LaVohn (Vohnny) Kay Weyrick passed away peacefully Friday morning, 01 April, 2022, at the
Exeter Hospital. She is survived by her sons Steve (and wife Kerry) and Bill (and wife Pat), and
daughter Kris (and husband Wes), as well as five (5) grand children (and two spouses) and four
(4) great grand children. She would’ve been ninety (90) years old on June 18th.
Vohnny had an active career as a nurse, school bus driver and then transportation coordinator
for the Oyster River and Sanford school districts, swimming instructor at UNH and then director
of the Lee swim school program at the Lamprey River and Wheelwright Pond, sales and layout
implementer for The Print Place, and finally receptionist and bookkeeper for her daughter’s hair
salon business.
Vohnny drew from deep-rooted artistic abilities, taking up wood carving rather late in life. Her
work is on permanent display at the Madison Museum of Fine Art in Georgia. The town of Lee
requisitioned her to carve a realistic Purple Finch, the New Hampshire state bird, for its Time
Capsule to be opened on their tricentennial!
Music was also an important part of Vohnny’s life. She was in a number of barbershop quartets
and choruses, and was a founding member of Sounds of the Seacoast. Many special memories
were made with her “Sisters in Harmony”! Her love of singing was melded with her faith as she
sang spiritually in the Durham Community Church Choir. After the passing of her dear husband,
Vohnny took up playing Native American flutes as a mechanism for healing her heart. Vohnny,
daughter Kris, and friend Mary Bencks formed a flute trio. The three of them attended a
weeklong Zion Canyon Native Flute School in Utah just two weeks before she passed; the three
returned absolutely glowing with the memories!
Vohnny had a strong Christian faith that formed the foundation for her spirit of love for family
and friends, as well as her drive to support those in need. Love provided the inexhaustible bond
she had with her husband Dick, who passed away exactly four years and six months, to the day,
before she did. That was 54 months that Vohnny lived without Dick. And they were married in
`54! Dick was the biggest super-fan of Vohnny’s choruses and quartets, traveling to all of their
national and international competitions and providing much-appreciated energy and support.
Her family now envisions Vohnny and Dick, arm-in-arm in Heaven, singing joyfully before God
with a chorus of Angels.
There will be a celebration of her life at the Durham Community Church at 1:00 PM, Monday, 04
