Obituary for Mary Ellen Johnson (Bodenbender)
DOVER - Mary Ellen Johnson (Bodenbender), 85 of Somersworth, NH died on Friday, April 23, 2021 at Riverside Rest Home, Dover, NH.
Born March 24, 1936 - Defiance, OH.; the daughter of James Fremont Bodenbender and Helen (Shackleford) Bodenbender.
Mary Ellen graduated from Bryan High School – class of 1954. She graduated from the Toledo Hospital School of Nursing in 1957. She was married to Roy Joseph Johnson in 1963; they had one son, Kurt Joseph Johnson. They divorced in 1979. MEJ worked in many nursing capacities over the years and spent 15 years caring for others at Riverside Rest Home where she was ultimately cared for herself until her passing. She was active in the Christian Believer’s Fellowship Church of Somersworth, NH where she served as Sunday School Director & many summers of VBS as well as the CLF (Christian Ladies Fellowship). She also served as the church Secretary and Treasurer.
She was especially fond of visiting shut-ins, writing letters of encouragement and ministering to the body and spirit of those in need. She served as camp-nurse for many Christian Summer Camps around the country in the 60’s & 70’s; notably Camp Blessing in Vermont.
Due to Covid-19 regulations she will be interred at the Forest Glade Cemetery in Somersworth with limited attendance. There will be a Memorial & Celebration of her life held at CBF later in the year.
