Obituary for Nathan R Ramsey

Nathan Ramsey
December 28, 1965 – June 7, 2021

With deepest sorrow, we announce that Nathan Ramsey, age 56, our most beloved son, brother, family member and friend passed away on Monday, June 7th, 2021 while in the hospital. We lost Nathan as a result of complications from an accident he suffered at the age of 21, leaving him a quadriplegic. His condition and challenges, no matter how difficult, he battled with courage and quiet dignity for 35 years.

Those who knew Nathan, even just a little, lost a shining light in their lives.

Nathan always rallied against his condition and never let it lessen his aspirations and dreams. He was deeply committed to education and graduated from UNH Summa Cum Laude with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.

He was fiercely independent and was determined to live his life to the fullest traveling to many states. He would drive himself for road trips and especially loved spending time in Maine with his four-legged companions visiting a family camp where he enjoyed watching his dogs swim in the pond in Hebron, Maine.

He went on to work for Brooks Automation in an engineering role for 26 years.

Nathan designed and was recognized and awarded for designing the first ever device to assist paraplegics getting in and out of bed.

He designed a boat that allowed him to indulge in his favorite activity, rowing. He launched the first North Texas rowing club for people with disabilities at Bachman Lake in Dallas. He was recognized in the Texas Disability History Collection and is shown in a photo rowing in the boat while his wheelchair sits on the bank with his hat perched upon it.

He spent the last year of his life chronicling his amazing adventures in a memoir; a treasure for his family and friends and soon to be published book.

Nathan will be missed everyday by his Mother, Patricia Kaufman, Father, David Ramsey, Sr, brothers, Lincoln and David Jr, step-brothers Danny, Eric and Joseph, his loving Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Nephews, Nieces and many, many great friends.
