Obituary for Robert Thomas Madison

Robert Thomas Madison unexpectedly passed away at his home on April 8, 2022. He was a quiet mountain, an unassuming rock. He was deep, still water. He was a peek of sun behind a cloud of spring rain.

Robert grew up in Massachusetts and enlisted in the Marines after graduating from Athol High School in 1967. He was honorably discharged after serving a tour in Vietnam. He earned his degree in human services from SNHU and had a long fruitful career.

In 1984, Robert and his family moved to Northwood, New Hampshire, where he served on the town budget committee and was a Little League coach. A self-taught woodworker, he made banks for his family, friends and many of the Northwood community. He was an extremely hard worker who was always working on home improvement projects. He enjoyed music from the 50’s, working puzzles and was a fierce Backgammon competitor. He generously donated to multiple charities. He always found a way to help family members, friends and strangers.

More than anything, Robert loved his family. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Martha-Jean, his children Cheryl, Jason, Daniyel, Noah, Jennifer, Faith, Hannah, Adam, Joshua and David. He was predeceased by two of his sons, Thomas and Ryan. He was also the beloved ‘Pappa’ to sixteen grandchildren.

He leaves his sisters, Kathleen, Brenda, Theresa and Nicole. He was predeceased by his mother Grace and his brother Alex.

Robert was greatly loved by his brothers and sister’s in-law and his many nieces and nephews, who relished his humorous stories and heart-felt mentoring.

A private celebration of Robert’s life will take place later this year. Donations may be made in his honor to the Wounded Warrior Project.
