Dover – Norman A. Tremblay died January 16, 2021, at the age of 96.
He was born in 1924 in Goffstown to the late Emily (Gelinas) Tremblay and Maurice J. Tremblay.
Norman served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, seeing action at Peleliu, Tinian and Iwo Jima. He was once stranded on Ragged Island in The Bahamas for a week with his fellow air crew members when their PBY Catalina patrol aircraft had engine trouble. He later flew on the PB4Y-2 Privateer aircraft.
He went on to serve in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He retired from his 30-year military career in 1978. His service also took him across the U.S., Europe, Central America and South America.
Among his many military decorations were the Bronze Star Medal, the Distinguished Flying Cross and five Air Medals.
He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Therese (Bourque) Tremblay of Dover; children Roger Tremblay of Rowley, Massachusetts; Norman P. Tremblay and wife Wendi of Barrington; Diane Reinert and husband Bob of Nottingham; Denise Mayfield of North Berwick, Maine; and Richard Tremblay and wife Carolyn of Lee; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be held Thursday January 21, 2021 from 10:00am -11:00am at Wiggin-Purdy-McCooey-Dion Funeral Home, 655 Central Ave. Dover NH. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30am, following the visitation at Parish of the Assumption, St. Mary’s Church, 25 Chestnut St. in Dover. Burial will take place at the NH Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen on Friday January 22, 2021 at 12:00pm.

Please accept my family's condolences on the loss Norman. His life story of selfless service to our great nation brought tears to my eye's, as he is one of the "greatest generations" that carried our country during turbulent times. I hope to meet him when it's my time, so we can talk and share stories of times & sacrifices long past...

Aunt Terry, Roger,Norman,Diane,Denise and RIchard . I have many wonderful memories of Uncle Norm. One, when he tried so hard many times to teach me French ,to no avail. Wish I was in NH so I could attend the services. My thoughts are with you all, Love Sharon
